New Ad Campaign Publicizes the Economic Impact of Franchising

The International Franchise Association (IFA) recently announced the launch of its latest advertisement in its ongoing Public Awareness Campaign to help illustrate the economic impact of franchising to members of the 112th Congress. The new ad displays how a renewed commitment to pro-growth policies from Washington, D.C. will help franchise businesses grow at a more rapid pace.

“We urge members of the 112th Congress to consider the impact of public policies on the ability of small franchise businesses to grow and help move the economy from a jobless recovery to a job creating economy,” said IFA President & CEO Stephen J. Caldeira.

Launched in 2008, the IFA campaign builds on economic impact data which illustrates that over 800,000 franchise businesses provide nearly 18 million jobs and generate $2.1 trillion in economic activity.

Choice Hotels International, Inc. is featured in the latest ad, with its President & CEO Stephen P. Joyce joining the husband and wife franchise owners of a Sleep Inn hotel in Woodbridge, Virginia. The headline of the ad, “Franchising: The Wake Up Call for Local Job Growth,” speaks directly to the notion that local ownership of franchise businesses creates jobs in every state and congressional district.

The print ads will run throughout the month of February, followed by online ads beginning in March which will spotlight updated economic data for each congressional district. This data will also appear on the campaign’s Web site, www.buildingopportunity.com

Hopes are high as franchise businesses are poised for stronger growth, with the 2011 Franchise Business Economic Outlook forecasting a rebound in the number of establishments, jobs and economic output in the franchise industry. Despite the optimism, tight credit and uncertainty about government regulations are restraining small businesses from opening new stores and creating jobs which would normally occur during a slow economy. If the ad campaign can stimulate pro-growth policies from Washington, the franchise industry could get back on track and start growing again.
