McDonald’s Consults Mom Bloggers For Menu Makeover

When McDonald’s was making changes to its iconic Happy Meals, the company turned to mom bloggers for advice and assistance. recently reported on why the franchise believes that mom bloggers know best and why blogs are invaluable to their marketing efforts.

"Mom bloggers are very networked and very linked-in," Rick Wion, director of social media for McDonald's, told me. "They spread information very, very quickly.

Mom bloggers are considered to be key influencers for two main reasons. First of all, because moms are more likely to trust the opinions of other moms and believe that their feedback is honest and genuine. Secondly, many mom bloggers have an enormous online following that allows them to express these opinions on a larger scale.

To connect with mom bloggers, McDonald’s has been inviting them to tour its corporate headquarters and visit the farms that supply the franchise’s foods. They also have plans for an invitation-only community for the most influential mom bloggers.

This month, McDonald’s is scheduled to appear at the annual BlogHer conference, a popular event with women bloggers, to promote its new Happy Meals and maintain their connection to these mighty mom bloggers.
