Marriott CEO Says Business Travel Improving

Marriott International’s Chief Executive reports that business travel is picking up and looking up, especially with group business. He also said they haven’t been negatively affected by higher fuel prices or unrest in the Middle East, according to a recent Reuters article.

"I think businesses are saying 'we haven't been out of the office in two or three years. We have to get out,'" said J.W. Marriott Jr.

As the largest U.S. hotel company by market value, Marriott International is the Bethesda, Maryland-based operator of Marriott, Residence Inn and Ritz-Carlton hotels.

Business travel accounts for a much larger segment of the hospitality market than leisure travel. At upscale hotels such as those operated by Marriott International, 80 percent of the guests are usually business travelers.
