Franchising Madness In Michigan

Michigan is currently experiencing an explosion of franchises, according to dbusiness.com. From restaurant chains to shoe shining companies, franchises are at the forefront of growth for this enterprising state.

The trend toward franchising can be attributed to the number of people making career changes as a result of the challenging economy. “Not everyone who desires to become a business owner for their next career is going to have an original idea for a new product or service,” says franchise placement specialist Mark Cory. “Therefore, a franchise business system gives them the opportunity to assimilate into a business of their own without having to create it, and build it from scratch.”

“Franchising plays a big role in Michigan,” says Mr. Ansley. “It gives franchisors access to capital to expand their brands, and franchisees an opportunity to become entrepreneurs. This is a win for the state because this creates jobs and tax revenue.”

Consider John Early, who traded 25 years in financial services to start up a mobile shoe shining business called The Shoe Shining Guys with his son-in-law. They drive to companies by customer request to provide professional shoe shines. The company has grown to serve numerous cities throughout Michigan and has added a shoe repair shop in Canton. They recently bought a second vehicle with plans to purchase many more.

Mr. Early advises entrepreneurs to be fully prepared for the mental, financial and personal commitment of running a business and believes that owners must be passionate about their work to be successful.

The influx of franchises in Michigan certainly bodes well for the economy as more and more residents are getting back to work by finding a franchise that works for them.
